Cola nut is used for short-term relief of fatigue, depression, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), melancholy, lack of normal muscle tone (atony), exhaustion, dysentery, a type of diarrhea called atonic dlarhea, weight loss, and migraine headaches.

The seeds improve mental concentration, act as a light aphrodisiac, increase physical endurance and give a feeling of being "high". In foods and beverages, cola nut is used as a flavoring ingredient.
